So our return to roots is frustrating to some in terms of "when is it going to come out?" But the game? I can say it's looking good. The guys are doing a fantastic job and I'd say we have one last big push. It's so close it hurts.
Note that these were the same words Mark Gerhard used in the recent live Q&A to describe the name change system. Is it just common phrase, or are they coming out at nearly the same time? I personally think the former is true, but it makes for good speculation.

We used the Java syntax, but everything else is built in house. That technology allowed us to do incredible things that you'll be able to see with Mechscape. The experience is a real evolution, and it's surprising because it's running in a browser. And I don't think you'd be able to do that with traditional Java, if you will, but that's nine years of development in the making. We sometimes surprise ourselves.

I'll wonder if we'll see dynamic shadows or reflections in it. I'd like to see the shine off metal reflect the backgrounds.
can't wait to play it and is it true that runescape members will be able to play the beta?
Keep up the good updates Yippee. :)

Well, there should be at least partially dynamic shadows, since all the graphics will be at least as good as RuneScape's, most (if not all) of it will be significantly better. However, the few dynamic shadows in RuneScape are precalculated, which means they don't work on things like your character and other objects that move randomly. As far as reflections, they can be very difficult to calculate and display in a game and still keep it as runnable as Jagex wants their games to be, but as much improved as these graphics are supposed to be, I might be a little disappointed if the game didn't have at least a few precalculated reflections.

And yes, RuneScape and FunOrb members will have access to the MechScape Beta.
